What is the “Young Authors’ Conference”?

The purpose of the conference is to encourage children to develop reading and writing skills, promote greater appreciation of literature, build confidence in their ability to write, and help all children express their writing potential through experiencing the writing process.

Students attend workshop sessions of approximately 40 minutes each. Each students will: have the opportunity to hear published authors discuss their works, hear other young authors read their stories, participate in selected literature related activities, and have the opportunity to share their own writing in a small group of same-aged peers.

The Conference is designed according to that year’s theme and will vary slightly each year.

Students from grades K – 8 in McMinn County and surrounding areas (such as Polk, Monroe, and Meigs counties) may participate.  All attendees are expected to write and illustrate a creative work, written by his or her self.  Supervision of the students will be provided by participating schools. $5.00 registration fee will be collected for each student prior to the Conference.
