“MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE, an exhibit of artworks by Dolores Hoffman”, will be on exhibit from September 5 – November 20, 2015, in the Nancy Dender Cantrell Gallery, 700 Tennessee Avenue, Etowah, Tennessee.

Essentially a retrospective exhibit, works representing various genres and media will be included. Representational watercolors, abstract oils, line drawings, and sculptural installations of sticks, wood, vine, bark, and other media form the basis of Hoffman’s exhibit. Juxtaposing and layering unconventional materials that play off natural forms allows the artist to push the boundaries and articulate the unseen that hides in everyday life. To gain new perspectives, Hoffman often heads into the woods and wanders the trails. As she states, “Vines jump out of the trees and become lines that move out into space. Sticks overlay each other to form bridges and barricades. Things sometimes seem upside down and inside out. I often find myself on unmarked terrain, without a map. Out of this uncertainty comes the promise of new possibilities and unanticipated outcomes”.

Ms. Hoffman works in graphic design, paints in watercolor and oil, and creates sculptural installations. She grew up in the Midwest, and holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Visual Communications from Northern Illinois University. Her work has been exhibited on the West Coast, in Chattanooga and Athens, Tennessee. She now lives in Etowah, Tennessee.

The public is invited to meet the artist at an opening reception on September 5, 2015, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served. There is no charge for the reception or to view the exhibit during office hours, Thursdays and Fridays, noon until 6:00 pm.
