August 2011 – We Don’t Just Sit in Rocking Chairs

August 9 to October 7, 2011 in the Etowah Arts Commission Gallery during open hours: 12-6pm Tuesday, Thursday, Friday.

August 18 @ 5-7pm is the Public Reception. Free to the public. Drop in to meet these great artists! Please RSVP to our Facebook Event.

For several years the Etowah Area Senior Center has offered painting classes, quietly turning novice paint-dabblers into deft artisans. Work by these students and teachers will be publicly displayed the first time in one collection at the Etowah Arts Commission Gallery from August 9 until October 7, 2011. Paintings from their teacher, Tina Baker’s, class at Bradley/Cleveland Senior Community Services will be displayed as well.

But this exhibition doesn’t stop with visual art. EASC also encompasses a writing circle. This group has published both a cookbook and a collection of short stories. Expect a showing of goods made for their ‘Appalachian Project’ as well.

The Etowah Arts Commission hosts an artist reception on Thursday, August 18 from 5 to 7pm. This event is free and open to the public. Come and personally speak with the artists about their work while enjoying home-brewed sweet tea and refreshments.

“We Don’t Just Sit in Rocking Chairs: Art and Literature from the Etowah Area Senior Center” will be on display August 9 to October 7 at the Etowah Arts Commission during office hours of 12-6pm Tues, Thurs, and Friday. The Etowah Arts Commission is located next door to the historic Gem Theater at 700 Tennessee Avenue in downtown Etowah. Please call (423) 263-7608 for more information.
