Traditional bluegrass music fills the air in downtown Etowah, Tennessee as the Etowah Arts Commission (EAC) announces the 22nd annual Cousin Jake Bluegrass Festival, on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at the historic Gem Theater, 700 Tennessee Avenue, Etowah, Tennessee. Local favorites, Just Us, serves as the host band to welcome Band of Ruhks, Valley Grass Express, Hamilton County Ramblers and The Dismembered Tennesseans to the stage. Join us on Friday night, March 4, 2016, for the 8th annual John Studdard Memorial Bluegrass Gospel Concert, featuring Journey Home and Just Us. Sponsors for both events are Citizens National Bank, United Grocery Outlet/Bargain Barn, Athens Federal Community Bank, Bordwine Funeral Home, Starr Mountain Outfitters, and the Tennessee Arts Commission.

The Festival honors “Cousin Jake” Tullock, who grew up in Etowah, and was a long time member of Flatt and Scruggs renowned Foggy Mountain Boys, playing bass and telling jokes. The Gospel Concert honors educator, bluegrass musician, and founder of the Cousin Jake Bluegrass Festival, John Studdard.

Friday evening’s Gospel Concert will begin at 7:30 pm, with the doors opening at 7:00. On Saturday the doors open at 11:00 am, with the music beginning at noon and playing through until 10:00 pm. All the bands will play afternoon and evening sets. Bring your own musical instruments along so you can “sit and pick” during the afternoon on the lawn of the L&N Depot, just across the street from the Gem Theater. Tickets are $12.00 per person for Friday’s Gospel Concert, $18.00 for Saturday’s Bluegrass Festival, or purchase a combo 2-day ticket for just $25.00 per person. Tickets are available at the EAC office on Thursdays and Fridays, noon till 6:00 pm, or call (423) 263-7608 to order over the phone with a credit card. Tickets may also be purchased on-line at www.etowaharts.org. The Gem Theater and L&N Depot first floor are handicap accessible.

Phone and on-line ticket purchases will be available at “will call” prior to the show.
